3-course menu at Janice in Vesterbro – The culinary magic taking place in this tiny, personality-packed restaurant earned 5 stars in Berlingske and 5 hearts in Politiken

Tucked away in a subterranean space on Vesterbrogade is Janice, an unassuming restaurant with an open kitchen and only 18 seats. Here, sommelier Marc Van Hauen and chef Frede Madsen serve personality on the plates, in the glasses, and all around the dining room. Having previously worked together at Uformel, they set out to create a spot that is highly personal, seasonal, and informal. Just weeks after Janice opened, Politiken described it as ‘relaxed top class’ and Berlingske found it ‘incomprehensible that so much deliciousness can come from such a small kitchen’. This is a place where taste is paramount and ambiance prevails in charmingly petite, unpretentious surroundings.

WHAT YOU GET

Enjoy a 3-course menu at Janice. The menu is chef’s choice, so dishes rotate regularly and reflect the best produce of the season. Dig into housemade pork and pistachio terrine served with gherkins, stone ground mustard, and sourdough bread from Albatross & Venner. Taste citrusy scallop aguachile with cucumber, kohlrabi, and wild watercress. Savor juicy seared pork with berry-infused barbecue sauce, baby gem lettuce, green asparagus, and roasted garlic pureé.

+ ABOUT

Janice is a small but mighty restaurant run by friends who open the bottles of wine they love to drink and serve the food they love to eat. As you sit back and watch it all unfold in the open kitchen, you’ll get the feeling that seeing so many dishes come out of such a tiny space seems like theater magic. Seasonal ingredients are always the star of the show, and the rest of the stage is set with a few intimate tables and banquettes with boxes of wine stacked underneath. What this place lacks in space, it certainly doesn’t lack in personality or culinary prowess.
