On a picturesque corner in Christianshavn, a well-known host waits to greet you. He’s a French ‘levemand’ of sorts, devoted to experiences that delight the senses. It’s the late Prince Henrik – or rather, a portrait of him – and if nothing else, he was a man who knew how to enjoy life in restaurants like this one. The tables are intimate, the candles are always lit, and the ever-changing seasonal menu is written in chalk. The ambiance is as rich as the food, meaning there’s no shortage of charm, and no lack of butter or wine either. In France, they wouldn’t have it any other way, and as you step inside Lalala, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported there.
WHAT YOU GET
Enjoy a 4-course menu at Lalala. The menu is chef’s choice, so dishes rotate regularly and reflect the best produce of the season. Taste Asperges Blanches au Mousseline, a dish of butter-steamed white asparagus with Mousseline sauce and freshly ground black pepper. Savor Bisque du Homard, a rich lobster bisque seasoned with smoked celeriac, pickled lemon, and brown butter. Feast on Steak Frites, a classic dish of flat iron steak basted in butter, rosemary, and garlic, served with crisp fries and bearnaise. Satisfy your sweet tooth with Ganache au Chocolat Blanc avec Rhubarbe, an indulgent dessert of creamy white chocolate ganache topped with rhubarb compote and fig leaf oil.

While Lalala has continued to evolve since its opening in 2016, two things have remained unchanged: the high quality of the food and the impressive size of the wine collection. With over 50 years of restaurant experience between them, owners Andreas Malling and Charles Teinby have perfected the art of superb service and classic French cuisine. Much of the produce is sourced directly from southern France, but they seize the day when it comes to seasonal Danish ingredients like white asparagus and rhubarb. In the warmer months, the coziness of Lalala’s dining room spills out into the courtyard. We’ll just go ahead and say it – we think you’re going to love love love it.
