Pick whatever you like at Saint-Jean Deli in Jordaan — The bakery’s savory sibling gives plant-based katsu, cheese croissants, and pistachio tiramisu a counter of their own
Saint-Jean’s appetite outgrew the pastry counter. Three years ago, founder and pastry chef Yann Pierre-Jean opened the deli across Lindengracht to give the bakery’s savory side a room of its own. Familiar cravings get the Saint-Jean treatment, with an entirely plant-based lineup stretching from katsu sandos to pistachio tiramisu.
Roasted oyster mushrooms fill focaccia with chili crisp, pak choi, and herbed mayo. Baguettes carry silken tofu “egg” salad. Plant-based pastrami and cheese melt into toasties. Hoisin buns and spiced cheese croissants keep the savory baking coming, with chocolate banana bread, lemon poppy seed cake, and danishes covering the sweet side. Coffee, matcha, and house lemonade offer plenty to sip alongside.
A good sandwich is reason enough. The rest is hard to leave behind.
