The wood-fired oven runs the show at Janine Restaurant. Here, blistered pizzas, handmade pasta, and small plates kissed by open flames draw on Italian technique while embracing San Francisco's tendency to wander well beyond tradition.
Mortadella skewers arrive with pickled garlic and salsa verde. Charred bone marrow is served with gremolata and focaccia. Cacio e pepe comes adorned with soy-cured yolk and black truffle. Pizzas emerge puffed from the oven and finished with toppings like Ibérico pepperoni, roasted romanesco, and ‘nduja. Vietnamese coffee tiramisu and Basque cheesecake with preserved cherries and thyme crumble close things out.
